THE MAKING OF KANIRAH

This costume was made for an art event in Portland, Oregon. My daughter, Zena Walas, was my model and I built the entire suit on her so that it would be able to close up and open up like a box crab. I used poly foam build-up to get the main forms and did the tail and other details out of EVA foam.

The final surface was done with cotton batting and Creature Cast Rubber, a specially formulated neoprene. The suit came out well and Zena’s performance at the art show was a big hit!
